…Brothers,
As we stand on the precipice of another pivotal election, I write to you not just as Past Chair of the Ebony Tie Affair, but as a fellow Black man who understands the weight of this moment.
Please join us at the 2024 Ebony Tie Affair on Monday, November 25th. For seventeen years, this celebration has brought together Black men of excellence who understand that leadership means both climbing the ladder and sending it back down. This year’s theme, “The Urgency of Now! Why We Can’t Wait,” speaks directly to our current moment.
While the presidential race commands the spotlight, our power lies not just in choosing the next commander-in-chief, but in shaping the very fabric of our communities through local elections.
Let’s be clear: the decisions that most directly impact our daily lives aren’t made in Washington – they’re made right here at home.
When we talk about:
• The education our children receive and what they learn in their classrooms.
• How police officers are trained and held accountable in our neighborhoods.
• The development of our communities and protection against gentrification.
• The opportunities for Black businesses and entrepreneurs to thrive.
• The allocation of resources for community programs and infrastructure.
These decisions are made by your mayors, city council members, school board representatives, and state legislators.
These are the elections where your vote carries the most immediate power.
The truth is, while national politics grab headlines, it’s your local elected officials who decide whether our communities rise or fall. They determine whether our children get the education they deserve, whether our businesses receive the support they need, and whether our streets are policed with respect and accountability.
The polls are open.
The time is now.
Vote your conscience.
Vote for progress.
Vote for our future!
To those who have already cast their ballots – your work isn’t done.
Reach out to your brothers, your sons, your neighbors.
Ensure they have a plan to vote. Share your wisdom about why these local races matter.
This isn’t about politics – it’s about power.
The power to shape our communities, protect our interests, and build the future we want to see.
Every vote cast is a brick in the foundation of that future.
Each year the Ebony Tie Affair celebrates those who have in the past, and presently continue to, place the future success of Black men squarely in their focus. We honor the legacy builders – men who didn’t just succeed but ensured others could follow in their footsteps. We celebrate Black men who have broken barriers, created opportunities, and paved the way forward. Over 400 strong, we gather to acknowledge our collective achievements and reinforce our commitment to lifting as we climb.
Join us in celebrating our collective power and purpose.
